Women in Neurotech Terms of Use and Membership

Last Updated: September 10, 2026

Welcome to Women in Neurotech (“WiNT,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). These Terms of Use and Membership (“Terms”) govern your use of the WiNT website, membership community, online platforms, events, programs, communications, and other services, collectively referred to as the “Services.”

By joining WiNT, submitting a membership application, registering for an event, accepting an invitation to a WiNT community platform, or otherwise affirmatively accepting these Terms, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to them.

WiNT’s Community Code of Conduct and Privacy Policy are incorporated into these Terms by reference. Certain events, programs, volunteer positions, projects, or other activities may also have additional rules or agreements.

1. Community Purpose

Women in Neurotech is a professional and educational community dedicated to connecting, supporting, and advancing women across the neurotechnology ecosystem.

WiNT provides opportunities to learn, exchange ideas and resources, build professional relationships, collaborate, and become more involved in the neurotechnology community.

Participation should support WiNT’s mission and contribute to a respectful, inclusive, safe, and constructive environment.

2. Eligibility and Membership

By joining or participating in WiNT, you confirm that:

  • You are at least 18 years old.

  • You have the legal ability to agree to these Terms.

  • The information you provide is accurate to the best of your knowledge.

  • You will not misrepresent your identity, qualifications, employment, education, affiliations, or authority.

  • You will comply with these Terms and the Community Code of Conduct.

Membership is personal, nontransferable, and revocable. Membership does not create a property right or guarantee continued access to any WiNT service, program, event, opportunity, or benefit.

WiNT may approve or deny membership applications and may suspend or revoke membership when reasonably necessary to protect the organization, its mission, its members, or the community.

3. Accounts, Invitations, and Access

You are responsible for protecting your account credentials, private invitation links, event links, and other access information.

You may not:

  • Share a members-only account or invitation with an unauthorized person.

  • Allow someone else to participate through your account.

  • Circumvent a membership approval, suspension, or access restriction.

  • Attempt to access channels, files, meetings, systems, or information for which you have not been authorized.

  • Use automated tools to scrape, collect, or extract member or community information.

You must notify WiNT if you believe your account or an invitation link has been compromised.

WiNT may deactivate accounts, invalidate invitations, or restrict access at its discretion.

RECRUITER AND EMPLOYER ACCESS

WiNT may grant approved recruiters and employers access to certain community areas, member profiles, job-posting features, or other recruiting-related services.

Recruiters and employers may view member profiles made available through the community; however, profile visibility does not constitute permission to contact a member about employment. Recruiting outreach may be directed only to members who have indicated through their WiNT profile that they are open to being contacted about professional opportunities.

Recruiters and employers may use information obtained through WiNT only for legitimate recruiting and employment-related purposes consistent with these Terms and the Community Code of Conduct. They may not scrape, systematically collect, export, sell, distribute, or create external databases from member information; use member information for unrelated advertising, marketing, or solicitation; share access or member information with unauthorized parties; or engage in spam or mass unsolicited outreach.

Recruiters and employers are responsible for ensuring that job postings, outreach, and representations about their organization or opportunities are accurate and not misleading. WiNT may limit or revoke recruiting access at any time for misuse of member information, violation of member contact preferences, or other conduct inconsistent with these Terms or the Community Code of Conduct.

4. Community Conduct

Members and participants must treat others respectfully and professionally.

Prohibited conduct includes:

  • Harassment, discrimination, hate speech, threats, intimidation, stalking, or abusive behavior.

  • Unwanted sexual, romantic, or otherwise inappropriate advances.

  • Retaliation against someone who reports a concern.

  • Fraud, impersonation, scams, phishing, or deliberately misleading claims.

  • Spam, repeated unsolicited messages, or unauthorized commercial promotion.

  • Doxxing or sharing another person’s private information without permission.

  • Malware, harmful code, unauthorized security testing, or interference with WiNT systems.

  • Conduct that is unlawful, unsafe, disruptive, or materially harmful to WiNT or its community.

More detailed expectations and reporting procedures are contained in the WiNT Community Code of Conduct.

WiNT may remove content, restrict communications, remove someone from an event, suspend access, or terminate membership in response to suspected violations.

5. Educational and Informational Purposes

WiNT content and activities are provided for general educational, informational, networking, and professional-development purposes.

WiNT does not provide:

  • Medical or mental-health advice.

  • Diagnosis or treatment.

  • Legal, tax, accounting, financial, or investment advice.

  • Regulatory approval or compliance certification.

  • Professional licensure or certification.

  • Employment, funding, publication, admission, partnership, or career guarantees.

  • Assurance that any technology, device, dataset, research claim, project, or opportunity is accurate, safe, effective, lawful, or suitable for a particular purpose.

Members should independently evaluate information and consult appropriately qualified professionals before relying on it.

6. No Professional or Employment Relationship

Membership or participation in WiNT does not create:

  • An employment or independent-contractor relationship.

  • A partnership, joint venture, or agency relationship.

  • A fiduciary relationship.

  • A professional-client or clinician-patient relationship.

  • A formal mentorship obligation.

  • A guarantee of compensation, authorship, ownership, academic credit, or future opportunity.

WiNT members, speakers, volunteers, ambassadors, organizers, and chapter leaders do not have authority to enter contracts, make financial commitments, or legally bind WiNT unless expressly authorized in writing.

Views expressed by members, speakers, mentors, volunteers, or other participants are their own and do not necessarily represent WiNT.

7. Member Content and Community Communications

Members are responsible for the content they post, upload, present, or otherwise share through WiNT.

You retain ownership of rights you hold in your content.

By submitting content to a WiNT-controlled platform, you grant WiNT a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, format, transmit, and display the content as reasonably necessary to operate, moderate, secure, and provide the Services.

This operational license does not give WiNT unrestricted permission to use private community conversations as public promotional content.

When you intentionally provide material for public use—such as a headshot, biography, testimonial, presentation, interview, project showcase, or social-media feature—you give WiNT permission to use that material for the stated or reasonably related purpose. WiNT may request a separate release when appropriate.

You may not submit content that:

  • Infringes intellectual-property, privacy, publicity, or other legal rights.

  • Violates a confidentiality, employment, academic, or contractual obligation.

  • Contains unlawful, defamatory, fraudulent, or malicious material.

  • Contains sensitive personal or health information that you are not authorized to share.

Community spaces should not be treated as confidential or completely secure. Members should not share trade secrets, patient information, protected health information, passwords, financial information, or other highly sensitive data through WiNT community platforms.

8. Collaborative Projects and Neurotechnology Activities

WiNT may help members meet collaborators, develop educational projects, participate in hackathons, or explore neurotechnology ideas. WiNT does not automatically claim ownership of work created by members merely because they met or collaborated through WiNT.

WiNT also does not determine ownership among collaborators. Participants are responsible for agreeing on matters such as intellectual-property ownership, confidentiality, licensing, publication, authorship, attribution, commercialization, expenses, and use of project materials.

Unless WiNT has expressly authorized an activity in writing under separate program rules, members may not use WiNT to:

  • Recruit or enroll human research participants.

  • Test experimental devices, stimulation methods, treatments, or diagnostic tools on another person.

  • Collect identifiable neural, biometric, physiological, medical, or health data from another person.

  • Represent an educational prototype as clinically validated, medically approved, or suitable for diagnosis or treatment.

  • Conduct activities requiring institutional, ethical, legal, or regulatory approval without obtaining that approval.

WiNT may restrict or discontinue a project that presents significant legal, ethical, privacy, cybersecurity, reputational, or safety concerns.

9. Events and Participation

Participation in WiNT events, whether virtual or in person, is voluntary.

You are responsible for evaluating whether an event or activity is appropriate for you and for taking reasonable precautions concerning your health, safety, travel, equipment, property, technology, and interactions with others.

WiNT does not guarantee:

  • That an event will occur as scheduled.

  • That a particular speaker, participant, topic, or opportunity will be available.

  • Uninterrupted technical access.

  • The behavior or statements of every participant.

  • A particular educational, networking, professional, or career outcome.

WiNT may cancel, postpone, relocate, shorten, or modify an event because of speaker availability, technical problems, safety concerns, weather, emergencies, platform failures, legal requirements, or other circumstances.

Participants must comply with event instructions, platform rules, venue rules, these Terms, and the Community Code of Conduct.

10. Photography and Recordings

WiNT events may be photographed, recorded, livestreamed, or transcribed for educational, archival, accessibility, operational, marketing, or promotional purposes.

When an event is expected to be recorded, WiNT will provide notice and may require separate affirmative consent during registration.

By knowingly participating after receiving recording notice, you consent, to the extent permitted by applicable law, to the capture and authorized use of your appearance, voice, name, statements, and event participation.

Featured speakers, panelists, presenters, and interviewees may be required to sign a separate media release.

Participants may not record, photograph, screenshot, livestream, transcribe, or republish private or members-only events or communications without authorization from WiNT and any other consent required by law.

11. Privacy and Third-Party Platforms

WiNT’s collection and use of personal information are described in the WiNT Privacy Policy.

WiNT may use third-party platforms and service providers for its website, membership applications, community communications, events, video meetings, email, file storage, payments, analytics, or other activities.

Those services may be governed by their own terms and privacy policies. WiNT cannot guarantee the availability, privacy, security, or performance of third-party platforms.

Information voluntarily shared in member profiles, directories, meetings, chats, project groups, or community discussions may be visible to other participants.

12. Third-Party Links, Opportunities, and Participants

WiNT may share or facilitate access to job listings, internships, mentorship opportunities, grants, scholarships, events, organizations, products, services, research, tools, and other third-party resources.

Granting a recruiter or employer access to WiNT’s community, Talent Hub, or recruiting features means only that WiNT has authorized that person or organization to use those features. It does not constitute an endorsement, certification, background check, or guarantee by WiNT of the recruiter, employer, organization, job opportunity, or other representation they make.

Unless WiNT expressly states otherwise in writing, WiNT:

  • Does not endorse, certify, sponsor, or guarantee third parties or their offerings.

  • Does not guarantee that an opportunity is legitimate, available, safe, paid, appropriate, or accurately described.

  • Does not perform background checks on members, speakers, mentors, employers, recruiters, volunteers, or collaborators.

  • Does not verify every person’s identity, credentials, qualifications, or representations.

  • Is not a party to agreements or disputes between members and third parties.

Members are responsible for conducting their own due diligence before sharing sensitive information, transferring money, accepting employment, traveling, meeting someone privately, using equipment, or entering into an agreement.

13. WiNT Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, WiNT’s name, logos, branding, graphics, website materials, recordings, original educational materials, templates, and other content are owned by or licensed to WiNT.

Members may access and use WiNT materials for personal, noncommercial, educational participation.

Without prior written permission, you may not:

  • Sell, license, reproduce, or commercially exploit WiNT materials.

  • Remove copyright, trademark, or attribution notices.

  • Use WiNT’s name or branding in a way that implies official approval, sponsorship, partnership, employment, or chapter status.

  • Create merchandise, accounts, events, organizations, or commercial materials using WiNT branding.

  • Use WiNT materials or community content to train or develop an artificial-intelligence system.

14. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

WiNT does not guarantee that:

  • The Services will be uninterrupted, secure, accurate, complete, or error-free.

  • Information will remain current.

  • Every participant is who they claim to be.

  • Members will comply with these Terms.

  • Any technology, project, opportunity, recommendation, or third-party resource is safe, effective, lawful, or suitable.

  • Participation will produce a particular outcome.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, WiNT and its founders, directors, officers, employees, volunteers, organizers, ambassadors, chapter leaders, contractors, and authorized representatives will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from or relating to the Services.

This includes loss of data, income, employment, opportunity, business, reputation, goodwill, or anticipated savings.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the total liability of WiNT and the individuals listed above for claims arising from or relating to the Services will not exceed the greater of:

  • The amount you paid directly to WiNT for the relevant Service during the twelve months before the claim arose; or

  • One hundred U.S. dollars.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

16. Indemnification

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless WiNT and its founders, directors, officers, employees, volunteers, organizers, ambassadors, chapter leaders, contractors, and authorized representatives from third-party claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and reasonable legal fees arising from:

  • Your violation of these Terms.

  • Your unlawful, unsafe, fraudulent, or unauthorized conduct.

  • Content you submit.

  • Your infringement of another person’s rights.

  • Your misuse of the Services, member information, or WiNT branding.

  • A project, research activity, opportunity, agreement, or commitment you undertake or make through your participation.

17. Suspension and Termination

WiNT may investigate suspected violations and may remove content, restrict participation, suspend access, terminate membership, revoke a leadership or volunteer role, or remove someone from an event.

WiNT may take action when it reasonably believes conduct is unlawful, unsafe, harmful, deceptive, disruptive, inconsistent with its mission, or damaging to WiNT or its community.

Termination does not eliminate obligations or liabilities that arose before termination. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will remain effective.

18. Changes to These Terms

WiNT may update these Terms to reflect changes in its Services, operations, policies, or legal obligations.

Updated Terms will include a revised “Last Updated” date. WiNT may provide notice of material changes by email, website notice, account notification, or a new request for acceptance.

Continued participation after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law.

19. Governing Law and General Provisions

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Any legal proceeding arising from these Terms or the Services must be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction in the Commonwealth of Virginia, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

If any provision is found unlawful or unenforceable, it will be limited or removed only to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue in effect.

WiNT’s failure to enforce a provision does not waive its right to enforce it later.

These Terms, the Community Code of Conduct, the Privacy Policy, and any applicable program-specific agreement constitute the agreement between you and WiNT concerning the Services.
